Picking teams without an argument

Two captains picking alternately is the oldest way to split a room and the worst one: it takes the longest, it ranks everybody in public, and the last person picked knows exactly where they came. A wheel is faster and settles it without anybody having to make a judgement out loud.

The one thing a random draw will not do is balance ability. If that matters for your event, seed the teams instead: split the strongest players across the teams by hand first, then use the wheel on everybody else. For a social game, random is the point.

Questions

How does the team randomizer work?
Paste one name per line and choose how many teams you want. Each spin pulls one name out of the pot and puts it on the team with the fewest players, so the teams come out even without you having to balance them.
Is the wheel actually random?
Yes. The name is drawn before the wheel moves and the animation is then pointed at whichever name was picked, so the result never depends on how long the spin ran or on the tab being in the foreground.
Can I make teams of different sizes?
The wheel always fills the smallest team next, so sizes differ by at most one. Eleven names across three teams comes out four, four and three rather than five, three and three.
Can I turn the teams into a bracket?
Yes. Once everybody is placed, Draw a bracket with these teams fills the Teams division on the bracket page with the result, rosters and all, ready to be drawn as a knockout or a round robin.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign up and nothing to install. The names you type stay in your browser and are never uploaded anywhere.
Can I use it to pick one person at random?
Yes, in effect: set it to two teams and spin once, and the first name out is a random pick. The wheel is built for splitting a room up rather than for choosing a single winner.
